Nearly one year since the launch of the Rexona Breaking Limits Programme in partnership with Beyond Sport, we’ve helped thousands of young people aged 12-18 access the transformative power of movement.
Driven by the belief that everyone should be able to experience the benefits of physical activity, Rexona (also known as Sure, Degree or Shield depending on your location) and Beyond Sport are on a mission to empower millions of young people with the right to move. Working together with organizations that share the goal, the partnership provides the opportunity to transform young people’s lives, empowering them with the confidence and opportunity to move more.
To achieve this, we’ve partnered with leading sport for development NGOs across the UK, US and Brazil to provide young people with access to movement-based programs.
“The training series is a part of our coaching cohort for this upcoming year. We hope to continue sharing this with our internal coaches as well as partnering organizations as well. The training modules have been extraordinarily helpful!” said Atlanta, Georgia-based non-profit, Soccer in the Streets.
Through the programme we’re providing coaches and community leaders with the power to fuel long-term, positive behavior change with the free-to-access Breaking Limits Training Series. Created and developed in partnership with some of the world’s leading sport for development organizations, the training series consists of nine modules (with the hope of more to come soon!) designed for organizations working with youth.
“The Breaking Limits training series encompasses what we do at Beyond Sport, bringing together experts within the sport for development sector to push the sector forward. Collaboration is at the heart of what we carry out and we continue to support organizations using sport to address social issues through capacity-building programs and funding. The training series is a culmination of work to help break barriers to movement and we’re proud to partner with Rexona to get more youth moving,” said Fred Turner, Executive Director of Beyond Sport.
Since the launch of the series, coaches have used the resource further develop their skills. Each module is suitable for coaches and community leaders of all levels, whether they are just starting out in their journey or are experienced practitioners looking for some new ideas.
“At Rexona, we’re committed to using our scale to do more good, not just less harm. We’re fighting for a world where everyone has the confidence to move more, and we’re doing this by challenging the narrow limits set by others about who an acceptable mover is. Through our Breaking Limits Programme, we’re equipping young people with the confidence and opportunity to move more, however they want, whenever they want,” said Rexona.
Through the training, coaches have reported that they acquired new skills and now feel better equipped to affect change and help young people to move more and build confidence through movement. Now, the project is on a mission to expand its reach to transform the lives of even more youth all over the world.
“In the rush of day to day we do not stop to do self-assessment, analyze our strengths or the skills we need to develop,” said a coach participant from Brazilian non-profit, REMS. “[Module four] made me reflect and rethink how I practice as a coach.”
The modules were developed in partnership with a range of issue-area experts, including Coaches Across Continents, Generation Spirit, The Sports Creative, The Change Foundation, the Centre for Healing & Justice Through Sport, Instituto Esporte e Educacao, Activity Alliance and City in the Community (the Foundation arm of Manchester City F.C.).
The first year is just the beginning of a long-term commitment to breaking down the barriers that restrict young people from moving more. The programme also supports Unilever’s commitment to improve health and wellbeing and advance equity and inclusion, reaching 1 billion people per year by 2030.
