Electric car racing series, Formula E, is currently accepting applications for its Better Futures Fund, which provides direct support to local projects and causes that are making a positive impact across its Season 11 race locations. Successful candidates will receive €25,000 (per city), direct engagement with Formula E and will be eligible for volunteer support from its employees, race teams, drivers and partners.
Interested organizations need to complete an expression of interest form by the deadline in their market including: Sao Paula, Brazil and Mexico City, Mexico (deadline Sep 30); Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Miami, U.S. (deadline Oct 14); and Tokyo, Japan, Monaco, Shanghai, China, Jakarta, Indonesia and London, UK (deadline Nov 4).
Formula E is described as a showcase for the world’s most advanced e-mobility technologies helping to drive progress towards a more sustainable future. It created the Fund during Season 10 to leave a lasting legacy in race host cities, maintaining the sustainability standards set by the ABB FIA Formula E World Championships. Season 10 funding enabled a projected impact of 13,520 people within its local communities.
Focusing on initiatives delivering environmental and social impact aligned with Formula E’s purpose and sustainability strategy, the Better Futures Fund is designed to leave tangible impact all year round, going beyond the scheduled races. The Fund also plays a pivotal role in the series’ social impact strategy, Formula Equity, which tackles social inequalities and nurtures resilient and diverse communities where races take place.
“Our mission as a championship is not just to leave each location where we race better off, but for our impact to have meaningful, measurable and lasting benefits. We recognize that underserved and more diverse communities are often most affected by climate change, so by supporting charities and projects that focus on environmental protection and improving air quality, we can help those most in need,” said Julia Palle, VP of Sustainability at Formula E.
For Season 11, the Fund will focus on empowering underserved communities in race locations to tackle social inequities and environmental protections, prioritizing nature and air quality in urban environments. Additionally, it will focus on community engagement and supporting more sustainable lifestyles.
Alongside the funding, organizations will also be included in Formula E’s wider sustainability strategy, including hosting representatives at tracks and introducing them to the wider Formula E ecosystem as part of its Inspiration Hour held every race week to engage local communities.
